LINDEN -- William R. Martin, 91, of Linden, died Thursday night at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Lafayette. He had been hospitalized two weeks. Martin had farmed most of his life in Montgomery County. He was born near Thorntown Jan. 6, 1880, a son of John and Isadora Miller Martin. He was married to Grace Burkart Feb. 7, 1906. Survivors include 14 children, Mrs. Silas Mullen, Mrs. Earl J. Gay, Mrs. Dorothy Winger, Mrs. Alonzo Booher, all of Lafayette, Lester Martin and Mrs. Lester Skeen, both of Thorntown, Mrs. Marie Guard of Linden, Mrs. David Snellenbarger and Richard Martin of New Richmond, Mrs. Wilbert Chambers of Crawfordsville, Mrs. Charles Hopkins of Indianapolis, Lawrence Martin of Boswell and Mrs. Simon Deeb of Rochester, and Mrs. Walter Smith of Albuquerque, N.M.; 64 grandchildren and 100 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife and two sons. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at Russell & Hitch Funeral Home in Thorntown with Rev. Harold Clark officiating. Burial will be in Bowers Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 2 p.m. Saturday.
